Purchase plant starts.

We offer a variety of locally grown annuals and perennials including vegetables, herbs, flowers, and ornamentals. Most of our seedlings are sold in soil blocks.

Our season opener/ cold hardy plant sale occurs annually at TreeFest (hosted by UCD) in mid March. The regular season sale begins in early May (weather depending) and continues through early June. Sign up to stay in the loop!

About Soil Blocks

  • Soil blocks are a block of soil used to start seeds or grow seedlings in. They eliminate the need for single use plastic containers and grow strong healthy seedlings that experience less transplant shock.

  • Soil blocks are planted directly into the garden like any other start. Dig a hole, add some fresh compost or starter fertilizer if you desire, and plant the block. Be sure to water in well.

  • Soil blocks are unique because roots don’t go around and around like they do in typical seed starting trays. Instead the roots are air pruned when they extend beyond the soil. This allows the plant to grow more side shoot roots creating a robust seedling.

  • Don’t worry. Your soil block will be fine as long as you keep it watered. To prevent the block from drying out rapidly place it in a location that is protected from harsh sun and wind.
